Courage is often portrayed as grand, bold acts—standing up to adversity, facing danger head-on, or taking monumental leaps of faith. But courage isn’t always loud or dramatic. As Mary Anne Radmacher wisely said, “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, ‘I’ll try again tomorrow.’”
True courage lives in these quieter moments—when we pick ourselves up after failure, choose hope over despair, or take one more step even when the road ahead feels impossible. It’s not the absence of fear, but the resolve to keep moving forward despite it.
When feeling discouraged, finding courage can seem like a daunting task. But there are simple ways to nurture it. Start by focusing on small wins. Courage grows through action, and every small step you take reinforces your ability to keep going. Break big challenges into manageable pieces, and celebrate progress, no matter how minor it is.
Leaning on others can also help. Share your fears with someone you trust—a friend, family member, or mentor. Sometimes, hearing another perspective or simply being reminded that you’re not alone can reignite your inner strength.
Reflection is another powerful tool. Recall past moments when you overcame difficulties or challenges. Remembering what you’ve already endured and achieved can remind you of your resilience and inspire you to face new obstacles with the same resolve.
There are many songs whose lyrics are about having courage. An example of this is Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. Listening to these uplifting songs will also help you to face the difficulties in your life.
Finally, practice self-compassion. Acknowledge your feelings without judgment and remind yourself that courage isn’t about being fearless; it’s about persevering, even when you’re scared or tired.
Courage isn’t always a mighty roar. Often, it’s the quiet, steady determination to try again tomorrow—a soft but powerful whisper that carries you toward growth and triumph.
The second book in my NAMELESS Trilogy is titled, NAMELESS ~A Story of Courage. It is about the courageous Samaritan woman, in the Bible who meets Yeshua (Jesus) at the well. Although the Bible only records a chapter about her, history books record a lot of information about her life, her name and her family, her ministry as a missionary and her death as a martyr.
