Depression isn’t just sadness—it’s like a heavy, black cloud that blocks out the sun. Sometimes, it feels as if the sun is gone for good and that the cloud will never move. But even the darkest skies eventually clear. The sun will shine again.
J.K. Rowling put it perfectly:
“It’s so difficult to describe depression to someone who’s never been there, because it’s not sadness. I know sadness. Sadness is to cry and to feel. But it’s that cold absence of feeling—that really hollowed-out feeling.”
Grief can bring deep loneliness. It can feel like no one else has ever known this pain—but you’re not alone. While no two grief journeys are the same, many have walked through the darkness too. That’s why we’re sharing these stories—to remind each other there is hope.
If you have a grief story that could help someone else feel less alone, I’d love to hear it. Click the “Contact” tab to message me to contribute to Stories of Good Grief, Volume 2. Your story can make a difference.
