Today I’m thinking about productivity. Each of us has different personalities and with our personalities comes different rhythms and routines. We each have a time of day (or night) when we feel more alert and therefore more productive.
When is your most productive time frame? When you wake up in the morning are you tired and sluggish? Or do you jump out of bed ready to face the tasks of the day with eagerness.
What about the evenings? Are you exhausted from all the work you completed all day? Or do you feel a relief that you’re finished work and ready to have some fun?
For me, most mornings are times of energy and clarity for me. I have the odd days where I am sluggish and when that happens I have tools and techniques I can use to help energize me. So, upon thinking about this, I realize the cause for something that has been frustrating me.
When I first start working, my routine is to go through my emails. It’s a task I don’t care for. Honestly, I want to get it done and out of the way so I can get on with the important tasks of the day. So, I realize, why would I use my best time to do something I don’t consider to be at the top of my priority list?
So, what does this mean?
For the last couple of days, I’ve changed my routine. Instead of going through my emails first, I get into the task that is number one on my priority list. Then, after that is complete, I go through my emails. It is still an important task, and it can wait for a little bit.
Is there something in your life that you can shift to make your day more productive? Take a few minutes and look at your routines and your schedule. Take a minute to share in the comments what changes you’re going to put into effect.
I found this post to be really insightful and helpful.
